I started this blog at the suggestion of many of my friends and co-workers who indicated they would like to follow my activities and travels on my upcoming trip to South America. I've never DONE a blog before, so this constitutes a grand experiment for me. However, since millions of others blog daily (and even idiots like Sarah Palin can do it), I'm sure I can figure it out.
My trip this summer is only a month away. Let me provide some quick background to explain why I am embarking on this journey. Back when I was around 6 years old, I remember studying my first globe in grade school and being fascinated with the names of all the countries, oceans and continents. I distinctly remember at that tender age making a goal to someday step foot on all seven continents by the time I was 6o years old (back then that seemed absolutely ancient). During the many decades that have followed, my dream has stayed alive; I've made many, many trips around the world, with stops including: most of Western Europe, Morocco, Greece, Israel, Egypt, India, Nepal, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Thailand and Ireland (I won a free trip there in a photography contest) as well as seeing a great portion of North America. So at last count, I've been on four continents. This trip to South America will be my fifth. And then I've got three more years to get to Australia and Antarctica until I cross my finish line and realize a life-long dream!
So join me as I leave for stops in Ecuador, Peru, a quick stop in Chile, and then on to Brazil for 5 days in Rio de Janeiro! My plane leaves on July 14th, 2010 and with the help of my new lil laptop, I hope to update anyone who follows this blog as frequently as possible. Come fly away with me! JM
